Most honeymoon pages show you a photograph and a starting price. This one shows you the fixed costs first, because those are the numbers that decide whether the rest of the trip is possible.
Uganda is an unusual honeymoon choice, and that is most of its appeal. You are not queuing behind forty other couples for the same sunset. But it is also a trip with a few large, non-negotiable costs that arrive before you have chosen a single lodge, and couples who discover them late end up cutting nights to cover them.
These are per couple, and they are fixed regardless of whether you travel on a modest budget or a generous one.

Travel in April, May or November and the permits drop to $600 each, taking $400 off that total. For a honeymoon with flexible dates, that is a free upgrade in lodge quality, funded entirely by moving the month.
Since March 2026 there is no reservation hold, so full payment is due when you book. About 160 permits exist per day across the whole country. A cancelled flight is an inconvenience; a sold-out trekking date ends the trip you were planning. Our full breakdown is in the gorilla permits guide.
Uganda rewards slowness and punishes ambition. The distances are long, the roads are variable, and a honeymoon spent in a vehicle is not a honeymoon. Three regions in ten days is comfortable. Five is a mistake.
Many couples pair Uganda with Zanzibar, and it works well: forest and savannah first, then a week of not moving. Budget for a Tanzania e-visa around $50 each, which the East Africa Tourist Visa does not cover, plus Zanzibar's mandatory ZIC insurance at $44 each. Domestic light aircraft in Uganda typically enforce a 15kg soft-bag limit, so pack for the plane, not the airport.
The permit dictates your sector, the sector dictates your trailhead, and the trailhead dictates which lodges are a sensible drive. Book the lodge first and you may be waking at 4am to reach a gate two hours away on your honeymoon.
Lodge marketing in this region ages badly. A pool photographed in 2019 may not have held water since. Recent guest photographs tell you more than any brochure, which is why a person checks every property before it reaches a plan we hand over.
Bwindi is rainforest. It rains in the dry season too. The distinction is about road conditions and trail difficulty, not about whether you will need a jacket. Pack as though it will rain, because it will.
